Did you know there’s an entire day dedicated to combatting the global food waste crisis? Stop Food Waste Day provides an incredible opportunity to practice sustainability, benefiting our planet and neighbors in our community. As Three Square Food Bank's Community Engagement Manager, I have the privilege of collaborating with 190 grocery store locations year around to ensure food is diverted from the landfill and into the homes of Southern Nevadans facing hunger.

Whenever I shop at my go-to Walmart and Sam's Club stores, I often think about what happens behind the scenes to help communities across the country combat food waste. Our retail partners include 19 Walmart stores, 11 Walmart Neighborhood Markets, and 6 Sam's Clubs. Three Square and agency partners travel to these stores daily to rescue food product and distribute to community members. Last year alone, Walmart and Sam’s Club donated the equivalent of 4.5 million meals.

It never ceases to amaze me how these collaborative partnerships can significantly impact my community for the better.

Together, we can feed everyone.
